It’s been a while since I posted anything here, so I thought I’d just drop by with a quick update.
Cycling has taken a back seat to pretty much everything else since a little health scare in the fall of 2015. I sold off my Warbird and barely rode the fat bike over the winter months.
A few weeks back I tried to re-motivate myself by picking up a new bike for the upcoming warmer weather – a Sette Razzo Carbon 29er. I love the bike – it rides well, fits me well and after a few small cockpit adjustments I couldn’t be more pleased.
I’ve taken her out on a few shortish rides, and one longer jaunt up to the Tomahawk WI area where I found a nice gravel trail running between Tomahawk and Minocqua.
Hopefully I’ll get back into it once the warmer weather kicks-in. Stay tuned….
Awesome! I’ve got a Sette but it’s just a knock-around winter cyclocross bike. That’s a custom build I take it?
Yes sir, it was setup for the WORS but never raced. I bought it from the fellow who built it up but never rode it, so the frame was practically new and most of the parts too.
I’ve stretched it out with a longer stem and fitted carbon riser bars, which actually make it look kinda goofy but have improved ride comfort for me. I fitted a Brooks B17, which I’m still getting used to, and a set of ergo grips which work great….and that’s it. Now all I have to do is get out more and ride it!
I must say it feels more comfortable than the Salsa Warbird I had last season. The White Bros Rock Solid carbon fork works very well in lieu of a suspension fork, and keeps the whole thing at or around the 22lb mark. And I’m happy to be rid of drops. I know that makes me a cycling Luddite but I just feel more comfortable and in control with the extra leverage from longer flats.
Hoping spring gets here sometime soon….
Yes, proper lay up carbon fiber is a joy to ride and in 29er size, a revelation, at least for me in comparison to a 26er. I don’t know about full rigid for the rough stuff but definitely don’t need rear suspension.
Isn’t Sette the old Price Point house brand? I don’t think they make them any more but I do remember them offering that brand for years. It’s probably an open mold frame similar to what you get from Nashbar and others. If they fit it’s a great deal. Since you bought used I’m assuming you got to try it first which is a lot better than ordering it blind like the original owner must have.
I have an old steel 29er mountain bike, a Jamis Dragon. I fitted it with a Niner steel fork and some huge Schwalbe Big Apple tires, a Brooks saddle and it makes a great commuter for the roads. 29ers are a lot more fun to ride than hybrids. Enjoy!
GOTA, yes, I believe Price Point were the original outlet for the Sette brand. They haven’t been made in a while and I wasn’t able to find much online, just a handful of reviews and comments about the carbon frame, mostly positive.
I’m really surprised at how well it soaks up the smaller rocks and roots around the local park trails here. It’s a lot of fun to ride!
