Salsa Warbird for sale. SOLD
Salsa Warbird 2016 Tiagra model. Stock, other than WTB Nano 40 tires with lots of life.
Frame size 58. Nice condition.
Ridden but loved and cared for. Some minor marks as evidence of a life on the trail..
Not keen on shipping the Warbird at this point, but it’s a possibility if you take the driver’s seat WRT organization of packing/shipping resources. I could deliver, possibly, if you live somewhere interesting and within 300 miles or so of Green Bay WI.
Bought new from Broken Spoke Bike Studio in Green Bay, just a few short months ago.
The bike rides and handles well, as it should.
For those unfamiliar, the Salsa Warbird is a gravel racer, comes with Salsa’s proprietary Class 5 Vibration Reduction System, and is basically a sweet, sweet ride. It handles well on pretty much all types of dry surfaces with stock tires, but throw something wider on the Warbird like the 40’s this bike comes with and you can blast through the wet muddy stuff with speed and confidence.
I’m selling the bike for personal reasons so my loss is your gain.
More detailed and close-up photos can be emailed on request. Contact me at carlh @ netnet dot net
Don’t sell it, thought you loved this bike. Just picked up my Salsa Vaya, couldn’t be happier..
Wow! Congrats on the Vaya!!
I think I should’ve gone with the Vaya. I can only think of one ride I’ve done where the Vaya might have struggled, and the Warbird struggled too…
Great bike, hope it’s comfier than the Trek..
So far so good. I looked hard at the Warbird, rode two in two different parts of the country. Liked them but kept coming back to the Vaya.
Love having the Trek in someone else’s garage. Great bike but perhaps the only thing more uncomfortable would have been to remove the seat and just sit on the post.
Are you looking to buy the new Cutthroat?
Don’t think so. I need to ride the tires off this Vaya first before I buy anything else.
Reason for selling – appalling treatment from the bike shop where I made the purchase. Nothing to do with the bike specifically, I just don’t like being shafted.
They don’t know it yet but they’ve messed with the wrong marine!
Not many things piss me off more than a business that is nice to me when the $$$ is coming in and then shuts down their remnants of service afterwards. If I wanted the same level of customer service one can expect from Walmart I’d friggin’ shop there.
Come to SW Wisconsin for a ride and a beer.
Marine you say..retired after 22 years of swinging through the jungles. Semper fi brother..
Yeah, I’m glad it’s not just me that feels that way about shoddy service. (this was a little more than just bad service though, I think they’ve ripped me off).
I’ve been brooding over the idea of writing a long and whiny blog about the way they treat their customers, but so far I’ve resisted.
They’ve REALLY pissed me off and now their logo is on my bike and I don’t even want to ride it!
Noooo….me no marine. Just abusing the well-worn Jack Nicholson line from ‘A Few Good Men’….”.. you fuc*%ed with the wrong marine!….which later became sanitized for mainstream TV I think.
Is the Vaya the Kelly Green or the Smokey Blue?
My wife and I are planning a September trip to ride the Michelson Trail..come along
Thanks for the offer! I’d love to do that ride but it was either/or with my trip up to Chequamegon…hopefully next year I can get away for a full week!
This is your forum. No reason why you should hold back and not blog about poor treatment. In my area there are more than a dozen bike shops. Almost all bike cycling purchases are at the same two because of the excellent service they provide. I don’t even like the brands they sell at one of them but I go there for all my repairs, maintenance, shoes, saddle bags etc…
The other 10 are only for window shopping. Some I won’t even go in again. I’m also a middle aged hefty guy and apparently don’t look like a road biker. I’ve had some shops jump over me to get to the thin guy who then they find out is looking for a $400 comfort bike and not the $3,000 road bike that I’ve looking to buy.
A blog about the rights and wrongs of local bike shops could be very helpful
Thanks GOTA, appreciate the input. You’re 100% correct of course.
I figured I’d just let some time go by and see if I felt any differently about things.
I have to keep reminding myself that it’s just a bike….and I do tend to over-react….
…but like Nick said, there’s nothing worse than getting Walmart service when you’ve paid for the premium package.
And then the lack of courtesy in not returning phone calls and messages….and being stuck with a ‘new’ BB that only lasted 40 miles….and…and….the indignity of having to take my Salsa bike to be fixed by a Trek dealer…LOL.
I should add, for the benefit of anyone finding this post who may be interested in buying the Warbird, that the service issues and mechanical problems I’ve touched upon here relate to my Salsa Beargrease and not to the Warbird.
Though specific questions asked of my dealer relating to the Warbird, such as: ‘what is your policy regarding basic post-sale tuning and adjustments’, do remain unanswered.
It’s been a month. DId you sell the Warbird? It’s a wonderful bike and now that the other 2016 Salsas were announced I can honestly say it’s one of the better looking models they have this year.
Rip that dealer sticker off and go ride. Wow, did we find a place here…but I’m not telling anyone. South Dakota next month…..
Hey guys….yep, I sold it. Just yesterday in fact.
I have real mixed feelings over selling it, but it’s too late now. It was a sweet bike and after a quick wash and polish it came out looking like new. So the guy’s landed a good deal and I’m OK with it….
I have some ‘stuff’ going on at the moment that’s taken the edge off my enthusiasm for riding. In fact I’ve hardly ridden this past 5 or 6 weeks, hence the lack of babbling on the blog!
Hopefully I’ll be back with a vengeance pretty soon…
Nick – you can’t do that to us matey! Where’s your new place? spill the beans 🙂
Glad to hear you’re back in the saddle, how’s the Mukluk working out?
Headed out in mid October…might get snow, might get rain but the leaves, especially in Spearfish Canyon should be awesome.
FatManBiking, Glad I found this site. Your review of the Warbird and all of the other comments on here from everyone has given me a lot of great feedback. The goal is to test one out tomorrow along with a Domane. Based on your prior review comments and knowing my attributes though, I am already leaning towards the Warbird. The roads around Clayton, WI can be great and then change suddenly to what the Warbird was designed for. I am thinking this is the perfect bike given my re-found appreciation for biking.
Nick, Thank you for your service to this great country.
Thank you..it was my honor to serve
Jeramy – sounds like you have a tough choice to make – two very capable bikes but so different! Let us know which way you decide to go…. My vote would be for the Warbird, but you already know that!
The Domane felt good and definitely wanted to get up and go at a higher rate of speed, but I am choosing the Warbird for the versatility. It felt good and I pick it up Wednesday. I wish they had a 58 in stock, but they had to order one in. The one mechanic went home and grabbed his 58, so I at least know how they feel at that size.
You will love it!
Nick, I absolutely love my Warbird. I am curious to know though if you ended up taking your planned trip on the Michelson. I just wanted to get your thoughts on whether or not you think the Warbird would handle a trail like that well or not. My wife wants to take a family trip out to SD again and I am trying to figure out how to work my activities back into it (possibly with a kid or 2 for part of it). Thank You
Your reviews of the Warbird sold me and I have been riding my Warbird 2 on gravel, asphalt, and packed dirt trails for the past month. I truly love this bike because most of my rides involve 2 or more surfaces and the Warbird’s versatility and comfort makes riding that much more enjoyable for me.
I live outside of Philadelphia and am thinking about a winter bike…. hope you write more about that.
